Hank Watson's Garage Hour - Cars, Trucks, Beers & Guns (gearhead personality)

It's here - beer radio with the Garage Hour goons.  What beers?  Hazy Doodle, Hype Forager, Pliny the Elder, TPS Report, Pale Pumpkin & Dark Tourist, and beer for space (cadets).  What breweries?  Pizza Port, Russian River, Metric & Red Leg, and obviously, Trinity.

There's so much more, we're just going to pile it right here: Infinite hops, beers to (plus for and from) India, mystery water, timely harvests, sizely barrels, available bottles, home-brew go-tos, (not very) automated canning lines, receycled brewery parts, San Diego beach communities (tame!) and because #geekshelp.

Too much good stuff.  The Garage Hour goons got together for an hour of cars, trucks, beers and guns at F:30 in Colorado, and good talk happened all over the place.  Joined by Distraction Monster, the F.N.B., Mr. Chungus, Butters, Arson, the Russian, with a late appearance by Green Tip and some wild asses, Hostus Maximus tries to get a rope around this episode and almost pulls it off.

Good stuff may include:  silencers, Blackwater shotguns (the AR-style Century 12), Trinity's "Stay Here" stout (three years on-tap), "Typhoon of Steel" (read it), riot balls or pepper balls, and the advent of speciological appropriation!  #becausegearhead

The much-requested followup to our September used-car what-the-Hell episode - it's Used Cars 101. Sadly, the Gearhead Consultancy needed about eight hours to cover all the bases on what to look for when buying something used for yourself, but there was time to hit the high points. Long story Fort, anchor your eyeballs in common sense and don't be a fool (plus some things like what to care about and questions to ask).

Have no fear - specificity IS here. We run down a checkoff list of areas to eyebang, like body, suspension, state-of-wear, overall condition, starting and running, plus traps and tricks set by flippers. Justin case, bring a geek.

There is no Zuul, only Dana (50 and 60). The Garage Hour goons dove into a Dana 50 steer-axle on an F-250 and it was easy (never done it before). Career guys might laugh, but there's plenty of geeks with tool-skill who might be skeered to take one apart.  Don't be - and the Gearhead Consultancy is here to help.

From parts sources like West Coast Diffs and AutoZone, Ventures Truck Parts and Denny's, to the comfort you can get by picking up the phone (geeks unite!), the Dana 50 is easy, and any geek will do (it).

We're here:  It's Colorado time.  Garage Hour goons finally found a free hour (with all the minutes next to each other) to chat beer at Trinity, and it's siptastic.  Hostus Maximus Justin Fort even pinned down Matt Dettmann, the new captain of this beermaking cornerstone, and then it was trube this and yeast that, with Trinity's XToberfest, Wrath of God, Dark Passenger, and guest appearances by Inda Kunindra (YOU spell it), Quadrangle and The Compressor.

Because the Gearhead Consultancy is always looking out for you (and what you did wrong), there's also getting beer to India (not just for IPAs) and asking pro brewers and other geeks for help. Called it.

2020 hindsight is still coming to get you, but the Garage Hour goons are in the best place to catch it on the back foot - a gun store in Colordo.  The 2A is back and we're here to help, with Green Tip, the Russian, Wolf, and special guest The Compressor. When the die-down won't lie down and die - it's a more legitimate second wave than the Chinese bat plague ever managed...

There's also the usual awesomeness: mixing concrete (not with your hands, Marc), recalling Gov. Know-It-All, the Mask-Fart rule, putting your debris in the dumpster, and why it's stupid to shoot your TV unless you're watching at home.

Put professional gearheads together and good tales from the crazy old days (back when SEMA was still business and not a car party) flow, with the Gravedigger, OE rules for dollar trucks, and all the plans Matt has up his sleeve to rescue 2020 from itself.  Find this guy if you're in the Chicago area - he's one of the best.

Matt Dinelli of Attitude Performance (with Mini Matt on-air too, whether he likes it or not), the Garage Hour talks about the new shop, attack racoons and trash pandas, lizards in the walls, musical cars, boating accidents, and why the Chicagoland metroclot is a suburb in search of a better city.

Used cars and trucks - tons of fun get-theres and gearhead entertainment from the candy stores at Craig's List, Bring A Trailer and 100 other used-retail platforms... Americans and geeks of all stripes (Garage Hour listeners, the lot) want to get out and do stuff because they're done with their useless governors' useless masks.  We have a good idea why - let's skillset this thing together.

There's a lot of good buys out there, from indestructible luxobarges to undefeated SUVs, handy econoboxes and heavy-duty trucks - and NONE of them are a hybrid.  Let's go drive stuff.

The Garage Hour goons know where to go when your favorite gun store tells you that nice new Glock you ordered will arrive some time in 2021. It's all about the private sale - which forums and web platforms can help, how to use an FFL to make sure it's a good deal, when you can take a risk, and how to cultivate a good relationship with your local firearm dealer.

From GunBroker to GunsAmerica, ArmsList to TacSwap, OpticsPlanet and MidwayUSA, Brownells and Palmetto State, we've been there and bought that (then shot that) - let our experience get you to the pew pew you need (or just want, but pretend you need).

So much good (hillclimb) stuff!  The Garage Hour supported this year's PPIHC as a race official and, like usual, lending a helping hand also provided one of the best seats in the house for this iconic American race.  Drivers, racecars, crashes, a lot of stunningly powerful hillclimb cars (OE-based and homebrew specials) and a little bit of weather, everything from ethanol to diesel and race-gas by the gallon - so much good race.

This might be one of the cleanest PPIHCs in decades - few crashes, with legit winners and mind-blowing car-control, and the Garage Hour goons were there.

#Becauseracecar!  It's hillclimbing season (when isn't it?) and the PPIHC is running its chop fluey-addled rescheduled race.  It's a little weird being fan-free ('cause kung flu), but the racers are here to race - folks like Dallenbach, Vahsholtz, Zwart, Yoshihara, Donahue, Schranz and more are running everything like a carbon-fiber Z, JZ'd BR-Z, open-wheel this and 50-year old that, Camaros and Mustangs, factory Acuras, and Porsches by the pound.  Power is thick: V8s from the junkyard, blown everything, twin-turbo'd straight-six Buicks and VQs, with diesel power, ethanol power and even - heh - nine-volt power.

Jump on board - Hostus Maximus Justin Fort is trackside and grabs as much as iPhonely possible, which turns out to be tons of surprsingly good audio.  Now you go do something fast and awesome.

Don't be a Carl - or any other guy (or gal) like the ones we've all run across.  You know the type - paying more attention to the phone than the road, devicing all over the place, less there than Joe Biden, and making themselves a hazard to everyone they're in traffic with...  Distracted driving kills, and we're here to yell at you about it.  Well, we'll yell at the Carls.

There's a lot of basic math going on here - distractions cost lives, whether they're installed at the factory (then hack the crap out of your phone) or put there by ignorant drivers who'd rather pay attention to their ex-girlfriend's twits than the cars in traffic around them.  Oh, and there's also barbecue sauce.

You don't crawl, carve, peel or plink your way into the dog days of summer without a little preventative maintenance (and some expensive new parts).  The Gearhead Consultancy took a few minutes to break down the cleanup of K&N (and K&N-style) gauze-based filters, including a few tricks from the diesel universe about getting your cotton (elements) their whitest.

There's more than filters in this one: tales of exploded radiators and exploding neighborhoods (stop trying to blow up your neighbors and just give the fertilizer to the plants next time), primers of upcoming episodes (shopping for gun parts in a seller's market), and other assorted Garage Hour goodness.  #Becausegearhead!

There's plenty of theory and reason supporting the hypothesis that how you drive is a good look into the issues that you haul around with you (or don't).  When you descend into a trancelike state-of-traffic that isolates you from the road and removes you from your mortal presence, all kinds of creepy stuff comes out!

The Gearhead consultancy takes this episode to peel a few layers back from your Fruedian freeway behavior, but it's only a start - your problems run pretty deep.  Let's hope this episode gives you and your enablers pause, and possibly the motivation necessary to revisit what you call driving but those in the next lane view with horror.

Sure, sometimes your kids don't fit, but a good day off-road just screams for accessories. Why not bring the child-units along and teach 'em what matters? The history, the technique, the parts and the how-tos - all of it makes smart boys and sharp girls. Better yet, they can't escape.

It's in there - basics like what truck and what tires, maintenance guidance, standards and rules to make a weekend with the wife and kidlike objects go right. ...And the Garage Hour is happy to welcome F:30 - that's Freedom:30 Arms of Woodland Park - to the party (pal). Because guns matter.

Gearheads love freedom - freedom to roam, freedom to experiment, freedom to build a Porsche or Chevy or Toyota or Yugo, freedom to blow up pricey parts and then buy more and blow them up too.  The Gearhead Consultancy got together at Freedom:30 Arms to figure out what to set loose - explosively or otherwise - on THIS Fourth of July.

How about some recreational shooting?  Family guns?  Camping in the woods (versus glamping and tramping)?  American flags (and where to put 'em)?  What about your freedom to vacation somewhere and stay there?  ...And introducing Silent Sean.

'Tis the season for more 'froading, but too many rock and bonkers tend to ignore a key bit of maintenance: cleaning.  It's not just ball bearings anymore, and the dirt you don't deal with can destroy your truck as much as you will.  Fortunately, the Garage Hour can help you get over the hump on "why" truck detailing matters.

From the experts, we've got answers on the important elements:  What soap?  Which water?  Two buckets?  Yellowed headlights?  How to wax?  Polish for powdercoating?  Tire juice but not snot?  What's a dirt sponge?  Can you protect grease?  What about the rubber?

"Like a good neighbor, stay over there!"

The Garage Hour goons have been helping friends and neighborlings make their home more secure (#becausegearhead!), and for many (really many) neighborites, that means finally figuring how to turn all those AR parts they bought into a happy, healthy bouncing baby rifle.

We'll get you set up with some good ideas on tools you'll need and tools you'll have, greases and oils, benches and devices, plus the need for a knowledgeable friend (geek!) and a good book for all the steps and some of the tricks. The Garage Hour's got you covered.

You don't hit the junkyard to look at stuff, it's about parts. Oh, wait, you totally go to geek out on cool bits you don't need, then rush to get everything you came for after wasting an hour fiddling with a set of pulleys that don't fit anything you own. The Garage Hour goons are here to help: a list of tools you need to succeed at the bone yard.

Don't worry, it's easy - not what you should get, but what you should bring. There's also a great layer of rock and/or roll, with Primus (Lee Van Cleef!), Dire Straits, Tom Waits, Living Colour, Snail, Sword, Faith No More, Piece Machine, Megadeth, Volbeat, 16-Volt, Perfect Circle and Man Or Astro-man.

Make Sunday funday a run to remember, or country road playtime will wind up being something to regret. The Garage Hour goons are pros at a few things, and a little gearhead gusto on the two-lane blacktop is one of them - the curvier the better. We'll get you a few of the basics in this episode, including obvious stuff like knowing your tires, and weird bits you might've missed (straightening the curve and looking past traffic included).

When you're done eyeballing the brake juice and kvetching about the cost of another set of stickies, let's think a few other thoughts about going fast for fun: Who's giving you advice? Who are you running with? Can you ensure your car can take a beating and are you prepared to give it?

Arm yourself with some facts for the next time you walk into a word-fight about AR-platform rifles. The Gearhead Consultancy got together with shooters and military men at Freedom:30 Arms for a walk-through of the basic bits of knowledge necessary for knowin' the AR-15 a little bit better.

Where to start? What kind of twist is right for you? How about barrel length? How about shined up GI triggers compared with fancy Geissele single-stagers? What kind of hand-guard do you like (and why?) ... And the best side topic ever: did you know LEGO Man's head is a .40 bullet?

Don't let the Chinese bat plague get you down - with all this spare time to watch crap governors hold your paycheck ransom, there's time to finish what you started. Whether it's yours, your kids', in the kitchen, out in the garadtch, built from scratch or just because, the Garage Hour goons demand you proceed.

If not now, when?  We're building rifles, polishing combat boots, nailing bird feeders, disassembling suspension assemblies, taking apart phones and putting meals together.  Nike can shove it - it's time YOU just do it.

Dynamite gearhead randomsauce right here: you can't get this kind of military-grade digression without a warrant (or a prescription). The gearhead goons cornered the guys from Freedom:30 Arms for another Colorado special, with everything from oil-drunk Subarus (and their supplement-stoned owners) to why home break-ins are so rare in Teller County.

When the smoke clears, there's even more: tourniquets, beer, the theory of "firearms-appreciation distributionism", crawling the Collegiates and sticking up Taco Bells. #becausegearhead!

Reach into the Wayback Machine for a Garage Hour Reload - this is the big-AM gearhead randomsauce we're known for.  From ten years ago, the Gearhead Consultancy crammed the studio with dogs, doctors, drivers and Dirty Dave for F1, bad behavior on YouBoob, burning rivers in Ohio and everything between.

It wouldn't be gearhead radio without beating up on Priuses and the Pridiots who still think they're the solution to all of life's problems - they're just an answer to why you hate your commute.  Also, they're a rolling Superfund site, and we know why.

Once again, life proves that a little preparation goes a long way (to making prepping look like a good idea). The Garage Hour did a recon of why you're already in good shape because you're a gearhead, and you're ready (four out of five geeks agree).

So kick back, stretch your sack, and join us in a little bit of good-natured back-patting - you're already on it. Double-check your stock, ignore panicky media reports (and do your own math), clean a few guns, finish a few projects, pet your kids, gargle some vodka, and look out for idiots.

It's good to get lost in nice places. The Garage Hour made new friends at Freedom Arms in Woodland Park, CO on our most recent breakfast run (this truck ain't going to wheel itself), and gearhead talk radio happened. Whatever would we talk about when we're in a Second Amendment Sanctuary city in a Second Amendment Sanctuary county?

Between due process and the statist witch trials that misguided officials in Denver would push on lawful citizens, plus the negative impact of unconstitutional gun bans and the red-flag laws that represent them, we take it all apart.

Geeks like to share - well, it's time to share the regard for the Second Amendment felt by our fellow geeks - builders, shooters, trap and skeet folks, hunters, gunsmiths, home-defenders, law and orderers, and the men and women in America's military.  Because of the attacks on our god-given freedoms (as enshrined in the constitution) by the bureaucrats and statists temporarily in office, we all need to stand up for our freedoms, and learning where things stand is a good place to start.

The Garage Hour is here to help: we've got updates on the weird state of VA, how West Virginia is ready to save Virginians, the failures of Gov. "Blackface" Northam and his ilk, other states' examples of where this is going, and how to save your state from this state.

Don't fool yourself: "new" frequently means "worse", and in few places does this show itself better than the automotive industry.  Real gems must be found, and bad ideas must be tied to the mast and whipped.  Huge in-car touch-screens?  Horrible.  High-end exotic SUVs?  A joke on humanity.  Electric-car viability as a replacement for internat combustion?  Getting to the moon for vacation is more likely.  The Garage Hour can tell you why.

More depth: electric cars and why they're less safe, less clean, less functional, get crappy mileage, are more expensive, more egocentric, and more likely to fail you.  Big screens in cars and trucks?  How isn't that encouraging distracted driving?  How are more faceless features making you a better driver?  Duhh.

Let's keep it simple (stupid): bagels, batteries and bullets mean being prepared to cope with the needs presented by food, supplies and society.  You need to be able to last three days on your own, and experts warn society is only four meals from a riot.  Don't be one of them.

From the garage - the Garage Hour is all gearhead, all the time.  This one-man episode (we'll summon the cohosts shortly - too many are still overseas staring down Putin) visits with a little auto-detailing logic, powered by Mother's product and a truckload of elbow grease, then veers off into the importance of geeks and gearheads of all stripes being aware of when the faceless little man with the big eraser is eyeballing their freedom to shoot, drive, build, wire, fry, brew, chop, punch and practice.

There's always more in a garage - you know that - so tune in for beers and breweries we discovered in Colorado during recent off-road adventures, the importance of having a proper funtioning workbench (instead of a soggy old desk that can't take a hammering and won't support your vise), Super Duties and their messy, messy owners, and why your hobbies and freedoms are a bureacrat's leverage (ie, licensing your rights back to you).

Nice! The Garage Hour goons are back from their Ukrainian espionage collusion sabatical (those tanks won't fork themselves, or how I learned to love Uncle Donald's Javelins), and it's time for cars, trucks, beers and guns.

Because what you drive and how you drive it is never far from a good man's radar, the Gearhead Consultancy chats about what's wrong with drivers these days (ball bearings), and how the advance of technology in your car is making you dumber, less competent and an embarrassment to first-world excuses.

This episode is live (to tape) from Protector Brewery and their founder and head bottle-washer, Sean "Where's My SCAR?" Haggerty, details the brewery's expansion plans, as well as his newest beers and upcoming supersauce (ahem, it's pronounced "lager") for your Oktoberfest pleasure.

Because we know you love it, there's a crapton of random awesomeness too: the Prius ban, drivers versus motorcyclists, hipster Harleys (tight pants and scooters), zippering in traffic, used TOW missiles ("... And WHEN did you use them?"), the tech disconnect and why lane splitting matters.

The Gearhead Consultancy gathered at Protector Brewery to chat with Mike from San Diego County Gun Owners about the state of your freedoms in the third-world kleptobureaucracy of Kalifornistan, and Protector Team 1 leader Sean Haggerty joined in, #becauseinteresting.

The episode revolves around gun laws in San Diego, SoCal and worldwide, including updates on your access to a CCW in San Diego, and how to get them from Sheriff Bill "Ruby Ridge" Gore, SDCGO's CCW meetings, the "Week of Freedom" and how generous Americans nationwide helped 700,000 CA residents buy more than 2,000,000 10+round magazines.  Mike also shines some sunlight on the assault politicians in Sacramento, who seek to drive their citizens into the desert by banning gun shows, and the legal black hole caused by politicians using red-flag laws for political gain.  Or Cain.  Both.

There's also a look at 2A-thinking around the world as Europe's slow sinking under the weight of invaders from the lawless Middle East drives citizens of European nations to clamor for 2A-style rights, as well as new castle-style protections in Indiana, Florida, Italy, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.  The Garage Hour also reflects on memories of the Roof Koreans, and how the Second Amendment kept a lot of people safe during the LA riots.

Yeah, which riots, right?  Freakin' Los Angeles.  Then there was yummy Protector beer.

Holy carp!  Too much good stuff (and a bunch of random hilarity, because gearhead).  This Garage Hour was a gathering of the goon squad, based on no reason other than it's awesome.  From stalwart cohosting machine Diesel Ayatollah, Basso Profundo himself (Chef Jeff) and an operational (when not operating) Gringo Rich, to the threat of FNG weather with newb cohosts Ryan and Kevin (to name a few), Hostus Maximus Justin Fort keeps this thing on the rails... for about 30 seconds.

Apparently, eight gearheads, blowtorches, bolts, Blues Brothers, barbecue, beers and a garage adds up to gearhead talk-radio genius.  Then it's all cars, trucks, beers and guns, plus the aforementioned stuff and some mentioned aft:

Banning Priuses from the Mumford lane?  Obviously.  Banning Burns Co. slant-drilling in New York?  It's in there.  The end of good rock?  Clocked it.  E46 BMWs for fun and VANOS repair?  Yup.  Burns Slant-Drilling Company?  Worked there.  Skeet surfing?  Every Wednesday.  Gearhead must-watch movies?  Listed some.  The taste of ATF?  Not as good as a Pineapple Grenade from Protector Brewery.

Also, according to this bunch, Bullitt is now anti-albino, the top shelves are genetic victim markers, Jeeps are born seeking repair-victim status, all aftermarket wheels are potential dealership victims, and trannies are supposed to stay between the (frame) rails.  Then they make sure to insult or offend Moe Sislack, Bob "Catfish" Filner, work gloves, power steering, Mercedez-Benz engine designers, Persian mechanics, cartoons, snowflakes, bulls and Huffy.  So much.

The Gearhead Consultancy assembled for another late-night garaging session to turn some enviroweenie tropes into tasty tripe (emotionally charged watermelon environmentalism makes good eatin').  Hostus Maximus Justin Fort was joined by mechanical man Gringo Rich, and the two broke in fresh new cohost and homebrewer extraodinaire Agent Neighbor.  The junior G-Man was wise enough to show up carrying a keg, so he got along alright.

Discussions got down to the brass ticky-tacks right quick, exploring the downsides of hybrid and electric cars (cost, inefficiency, toxicity, value, etc), solar (what's good for your roof ain't good for the neighborhood), wind (condor Cuisinarts do not make chicken) and biking to work (how many bags of groceries did you pick up on the way home?). There was also a serious melon-balling of all this lofty - and baseless - environmental cotton-candy, because hyperbole that appeals to hipsters, narcisists and sychophants does not a very merry reality make.

It's not all ball bearings, though - there are good elements to every bad idea, and these mechanical minds can find them, or get sauced trying.  It's not the technology's fault, after all, but the fools forcing a 9-volt into a AA hole.

There was also talk of beer: Protector's Pineapple Grenade and Berserker, Garage Brewing's Porter, the luscious and lethal Quadrangle, and Agent Neighbor's sublime pale.  Music?  Soundgarden, the Farmers, Deadbolt, the Crow soundtrack, Stone Temple Pilots, plus Crow's Nest and Red Rock.

Cheffing beer with the philosopher beermakers... The Garage Hour goons got their guns to Burning Beard for a serious hour of brewing business in San Diego's East County, including cursed locations, the tipping point for critical brewery mass, the importance of cultivating good retailers, and rebranding your failures.  There's fancy beers like New Damage, regular Normcore, Old Banksy and Du Hast (some appearing in cans!), and some of the most elemental details of the Wondertwins' upcoming third-anniversary party at the Beard (April 13 - act fast, espcially if you like Alice in Chains, Faith No More, the Allman Brothers or Deep Purple).

The Beard has the best jukebox in the world, and we always end up talking music too - everything from Chris Cornell in retrospect, Audioslave in Fallujah, and Filner in a headlock. There was also the Fiends, Deadbolt, a Foreigner/Asia/Saga shunt, and a minute or two on the upcoming Burning Beard Fight Club.

Just add Jeff "Sideburns" Weidekr and Mike "Tape Deck" Maass (plus .45 Phil, Chef Jeff, the Lovely and Tolerant Karen and Hostus Maximus Justin Fort): it's gearhead talk radio.

Too much good stuff!  This Garage Hour Reload had everything from tannerite to OJ's Bronco and short-course off-road racing to Elsinore VS Glen Helen, 'froading in SoCal, Blackstar Canyon, the Zip-It Hippie shirt and pistolized Mosin Nagants. It devolves into a board meeting about the first-ever Garage Hour Gun Getogether.

The studio and all lines were infested with cohosts, including the boys from Second Amendment Clothing, Nacho from Wisconsin, Gainfully Employed Dave, Mr. Dustin, Vitamin "E" (also from Wisco) and disaster-master Justin Fort's little brother Johnny.

Backed by the Top Taxpayer Mix (also known as the Mr. Dustin, Top Earner Mix) and a lot of t-shirt cannons, this is a throwback worth keeping.

Tactical thinking makes good beer.  Live from prominent projector Protector Brewery: the Garage Hour goons invaded Protector's beer concentration and tortured Sean Haggerty (SEAL Team 5 and Protector Team 1) with rainy day traffic until he told us tales of brewing Berserker (cherry puré infusion!), Beast Mod (friendlier when you pet it), and Pineapple Grenade (it's about the gravity).  Then Sean swung for the fence, and we captured two segments dense with great beer technique, including frozen infusion, CO2 and good water, feeding sugar, making nice with yeast, and why learning to embrace the suck is a watershed moment for beermakers and warfighters both.

Because it's the Beeralani Maker's District, the Gearhead Consultancy also purloined Guillermo Nasser of Collective Culture, the new #kombuchery going in next door.  He's going to bring #funkyferments to the masses (and promised to make some with a buzz).  Alongside he and Sean, there's bald tires, hail and lightning, the Liberator Taster Paddle (are you man enough?), veteran businessmen and Protector at Miramar.  Who are you to resist?

Grab some Garage Hour for the perfect in-garage chat session: Gringo Rich joins Hostus Maximus Justin Fort for nothing but gearhead.

Interested in coatings for the new steel on your old truck?  Just say spray paint!  Gotten a ticket(s) from the CHP?  They do a tough job, honestly or not - just take the ticket... Did you know about their their ongoing cold war with the SDPD?  Are you at Tierra del Sol this year?  We weren't (and why).  Tired of stupid designs that only seem to require you to invest in more stupid designs?  Thanks, post-Jobs Apple...  Do you think that needless government bureaucracy and masterminding is the ruin of innovation?  Ever been to a show at the Casbah in San Diego (thanks, Chef!) or the Col Ballroom in Davenport?  Remember John Deere's Earth-bending monster electromagnet?  Did you applaud when everyone on the planet told PETA to go F! itself when it went after Steve Irwin?  Think drive-by-wire is dangerous?

With a little help from Pineapple Grenade (via Protector Brewery), Powder 1, Rock Hound, Savage Off-Road, Addicted Off-Road and Krylon... We are you.

You don't duck curveballs, you hit them: when a planned episode with SEAL Team 5er and Protector Brewery lead Sean Hannity was derailed by a $8200 San Diego parking ticket (rumor has it they'll take a kidney and his childhood home in trade), the Garage Hour kidnapped Beer Servatrix and willing cohost Ashleigh and random awesomeness ensued.

New beers at Protector?  We've got the list.  New Jersey?  We've been there (and ain't going back, family home or not).  Suicidal geese?  Someone call DPS.  Tactical shotgun VS three-gun?  We chat style, preference and transitions with a deputy sheriff.  Sheriff's sidearms?  Yes, they do, often with front arms.  Fur torpedoes?  They like beer.  Best Coast Beer Fest?  We're planning to be there with our buddies from Protector.  Portland VS Seattle VS Ocean Beach grossfest?  Someone grab the hydrogen peroxide and a band-aid.  Crowlers VS canlers?  They're better full.  Richard Keil & Happy Gilmore?  Well, we were already being awesome...  Blazing Saddles & Spaceballs?  Thank goodness.

Yup.  Because gearhead.

The gearhead goons got together at Protector Brewery for a night with fine ale, fast friends and at least one microphone.  Target topics were the new beers coming to our home brewery (including a new S.M.A.S.H. and a hazy IPA called "Man In the Arena" - Gringo Rich's new fave, whether or not he got the quote right).

Other goodness happened too: cold-weather tales of frozen nose-hair, 50mph winds in the North Atlantic and waves full of icebergs, the upcoming Best Coat Beer Fest, iron-butt riders on the Baja 1000 (and 2000), Dust to Glory versus Endless Winter, and how Los Angeles framed Roger Rabbit.

... And we take a swing at Chef Jeff's old man, Randy Hall, who just published his Kawasaki coffee table book - Lean, Mean & Lime Green (back when the good old days really were).

We're not professional, we're just drawn that way.

From OCD HQ (Gringo Rich's garage - Location A-2), the Gearhead Consultancy spells out some of the logical, political and humanity-eroding failings of robots driving cars and autodrive anything. It's not just simple concerns like bad electronic eyes and soft logic, either: Who's liable? What happens to skillsets and responsibility? Why let some pearl-clutching toolbox in congress decide you can't hack it?

Asimov's Three Rules of Robotics are valid until they're not. We know why, and you should too.  There's lots of things robots and computers can't do that overlap with things they shouldn't do.  Aside from the liability of non-responsibility and the meddling of incompetent, ignorant or invasive politicians (thrice redundant), the peril of two-tier laws and robot protectionism (victim status, anyone?), there's simple (or simply unachievable) issues with road lines, gravel or snow and ice, plus odd lighting, sun flares and the mightiest screw of them all: other humans' behaviors.

Robots are coming to get us, unless we get them first - go read "I, Robot" and email us in the morning.
